Psychological therapy for growth, change and self-discovery
Life doesn’t go to plan. We like to believe that we have control over our future or what may happen next; but the reality is that unexpected challenges, changes, twists and turns happen. “How did I end up here?”
In the words of John Lennon:
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
And it can be difficult navigating this winding road, particularly when we encounter unexpected challenges or heightened emotions. Sometimes it can feel impossible to talk with those closest to us about how we feel. We might fear how they will respond, or feel as though we ‘should’ be able to manage on our own.
“I don’t want to be a burden,” we might tell ourselves.
The truth is, we all need support at times, but sometimes it can be difficult to start the conversation. Beginning therapy can feel daunting, but it can be an empowering first step towards change.

Therapeutic Approaches
I believe the best therapeutic approach is one that fits best with the individual. I take an integrative approach, meaning I draw upon different models and methods to suit the individual’s needs and goals. Some of the evidence-based approaches I use are briefly explained here.
-
This approach is based on the idea that individuals possess the inner resources to heal themselves. It comes from the stance that you know your life best. The therapist provides a safe, nonjudgemental, and compassionate space to empower you to work towards your full potential.
-
Psychodynamic therapy focuses on unconscious thoughts and feelings, early childhood experiences, and how past patterns shape current behaviour.
-
Systemic approaches consider how an individual is interconnected within social and environmental contexts. Problems that you might face are interconnected to interactions with family, partners, or wider social groups.
-
CBT is a structured therapy that focuses on how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are interconnected. It helps you identify unhelpful thinking patterns and change negative behaviours to improve how you feel. There is a focus on the present, and less focus on the past.
-
ACT encourages cognitive flexibility and changing your relationship with negative thoughts, while focusing on how you can commit to living in line with your own personal values.
-
A skills-based therapy focused on managing distress, regulating emotions, and communicating more effectively in relationships. These skills help you to be more present, manage and understand intense feelings, and feel more empowered in relationships while maintaining your own boundaries and self-respect.
